These are Some of the Most Exotic Gin Flavours in the World
Craft gin isn’t just about attention to detail and creating a premium product – it’s also about the botanicals and flavours infused into this popular spirit. Craft gin allows producers and consumers to get creative and curious through some truly fun and mind-boggling flavour combinations. Here are some of the most exotic, from our distillery in Melbourne. We can also offer you a gin making class in Melbourne where you can test your imagination and skills!
Vegemite Gin
There are few things as Australian as Vegemite, so it was only a matter of time before craft gin producers tried to marry these beloved umami flavours with what’s becoming Australia’s favourite alcohol. The result was the limited edition ArchiMite Buttered Toast Spirit, a craft gin infused with Vegemite, butter and sourdough toast!
Elephant Dung Gin
Going on to prove that you can infuse gin with anything – and we do really mean anything – a South African couple with a passion for conservation developed their very own elephant dung craft gin – Indlovu Gin. Infused with botanicals sourced directly from elephants in the Botlierskop Game Reserve, the gin has a complex, earthy flavour, with touches of citrus. 15% of the profits go directly to Africa Foundation to support wildlife conservation, which the team at our distillery in Melbourne loves!
Ant Gin
Scientists have long been saying that insects are the most viable food source on our planet, which may have inspired this ant-flavoured gin! It’s not vegan, of course, and it’s pretty rare to find it on the shelves, but it’s certainly an eye-catching gin to try. Made in collaboration with the Nordic Food Lab, this gin is infused with around 62 redwood ants and hand-foraged botanicals that include juniper, nettle, and wildwood avens.
Seaweed Gin
Although it’s hardly rare, you’re much more likely to see seaweed on your platter of sushi than it is to sip it in a cocktail – until now. Made in Wales, this seaweed-infused gin has an especially high alcohol content at 42% and combines garden herbs with organic, local seaweed from the Celtic coast. It’s a great choice for those of us who like a salty, savoury alternative to sweet gins and is an inspiration to our distillery in Melbourne.
